Looking for Church Unity? Look No Further
In the midst an organic church community, I have found the secret to church unity.
The funny thing is, no matter where I had been, it was always present.
It united me with a unique, diverse group of people whom I have grown to love dearly.
These are the most unlikely people to ever be united together. There are people from many Christian backgrounds including Wesleyan-Arminian, Southern-Baptist, and Pentecostal (to name a few).
Not only are they from diverse traditions, these are people from incredibly diverse backgrounds. Even if I had never joined this community and had happened to run into them, I would probably not have interacted with them.
How is this weird, crazy group of people held together? (Just kidding, love you all)
It is not doctrine that unites us.
It is not any theory or method of the right way to “do” church.
It is the sight of peerless worth.
It is Jesus Christ.
27 As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.
Despite all of our backgrounds and doctrinal differences, we are united now by a glorious vision of Jesus Christ. Whatever doctrines that we once thought were the most essential to what we believed, they have been pushed aside by an overwhelming sight of Christ Jesus. We have not laid aside the essentials of Christianity, but we are willing to put aside our own desires so that the Lord would first place in everything.
We seek Him to know Him more, so that we can learn to live by His indwelling life and express Him on this earth.
Jesus Christ is our vision.
Jesus Christ is our goal.
